Ember is a black cat and arrived in Murder on the Ballarat Train when he was a scrawny black kitten only 6 weeks old. He awoke Jane in the middle of the night by scratching on her window and giving her a fright. Phryne allowed Jane to keep Ember providing he have a bath and got a collar. He arrived as a soaked and starving kitten just when Jane needed comforting and has stayed to become an elegant black cat who loves mirrors. Ember appears again in Death in Daylesford but is referred to as a female kitten.
Molly first makes an appearance in as a stray with a dislocated hip who was treated by Hugh and never left. Molly is very humble but loves eating slippers.
